Stephen King's first novel has been filmed three times, but it has never had eight hours. Carrie, Mike Flanagan's series for Prime Video, arrives on Tuesday 7 October with every episode at once, and it is the week's most anticipated streaming release among horror fans in India and abroad.
Who made it
Mike Flanagan is the writer-director behind The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher, and the man King himself has called one of his best adapters, after Flanagan's films of Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep. Carrie is his first King project as a series, and several of his regular actors return.

What changes
The novel is set in 1979 and told partly through documents and news reports after the fact. Flanagan keeps that framing but moves the story to the present, where Carrie's humiliation in the locker room is filmed and spreads online. The series spends far more time than any film on the classmates, particularly Sue Snell and Chris Hargensen, and on the town around them. The prom, which every adaptation builds towards, is still the destination.

Should you watch it
