Three days after release, Drishyam: The Conclusion has done what few thrillers manage: open like an event film and hold like a word-of-mouth hit. Trade trackers put the opening weekend at around Rs 177 crore net in India, and "Drishyam 3 collection" has stayed near the top of Google Trends since Friday.
The three days
- Friday 2 October (Gandhi Jayanti holiday): Rs 62 to 67 crore net depending on tracker, the second-biggest Hindi opening of 2026.
- Saturday 3 October: about Rs 52 crore, a drop of around 15 percent from the holiday opening, which trade watchers read as a strong hold.
- Sunday 4 October: back above Rs 50 crore on early estimates, taking the weekend to roughly Rs 177 crore.
Occupancy stayed above 50 percent across more than 10,000 shows a day, unusual for a film without song-and-dance set pieces.
The records
The weekend is the biggest October opening for a Hindi film on record and the second-biggest three-day opening of 2026 overall. It comfortably beats Drishyam 2's opening weekend from 2022, which was itself considered a surprise hit.
Why it worked
Three things lined up. The holiday opening day gave it a huge first number. Reviews praising the Ajay Devgn and Jaideep Ahlawat face-off and the climax turned into word of mouth over the weekend. And the franchise's built-in audience, people who watched Drishyam 2 on streaming, showed up in cinemas for the ending.
What to watch on Monday
The first working day is the real test. A drop of 50 to 60 percent from Sunday is normal for a big opener; anything better suggests the film will run for weeks. Trade trackers publish Monday estimates on Tuesday morning.
