12 years. In all those years both had listened to each other's breakups, celebrated careers, cried on the phone at 3 AM. Tanvi and Kartik's friendship was so deep that nobody could imagine there was anything more to it. But one night — one moment — everything changed.
12 Years of Friendship — That Passed Every Test
A friendship that began in college continued through careers. Tanvi was in Pune, Kartik in Hyderabad. But there was a call every weekend. When Tanvi's first relationship broke — Kartik talked to her all night. When Kartik's startup failed — Tanvi offered her savings.
Their mutual friends always asked — 'Is there something between you two?' Both would laugh. 'They're just my best friend.' But was it really just that?

That Night — When Both Stopped Lying to Themselves
Kartik had a new girlfriend. He introduced her to Tanvi. Tanvi was quiet all evening — unusual for her. At night when she got home she messaged Kartik — 'My problem is not with her. My problem is that you are with someone.' Then she deleted the message.
But Kartik had already read it from the notification. He called. Tanvi didn't pick up. Then he WhatsApped — 'Today I realised something too. After spending the evening with you I went home — and couldn't understand what I was feeling. It was not friendship.'
Tanvi, about that night"When that message came I put down the phone and stared at the ceiling. 12 years. Where was this for 12 years? And then I understood — it had always been there. We were both just comfortable with that label — 'best friend.'"
Fear and Happiness — At the Same Time
The next week Tanvi went to Hyderabad. Both met — at a coffee shop, neutral ground. Both were nervous. Tanvi said — 'If this doesn't work, what about our friendship?' Kartik said — 'That is already the strongest thing between us.'
They decided — slowly, carefully. No rush. Both were afraid of losing the friendship. But both also knew — ignoring what existed was an even bigger risk.

Today — When Friendship and Love Became One
A year and a half later Tanvi and Kartik are engaged. The foundation of their relationship is those 12 years of friendship — and it gives them the greatest advantage. They know each other's habits, insecurities, and strengths.
Kartik says — 'Friendship-to-love transition is the most scary and the most rewarding at the same time. Scary because you have so much to lose. Rewarding because what you gain is already your most trusted person.'
